You can now stream content from your Calm Radio app using an Android or iOS device such as your iPad, iPhone to a Chromecast dongle that is connected on the back of your TV. We have added built-in stunning background videos to make your Chromecast experience visually and sonically unforgettable.

How to Use Google Chromecast with iPad, iPhone and Android

Before you start, ensure that your Chromecast dongle is connected to your TV, your mobile device is turned on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network, and you have installed our free Calm Radio app available in the Play Store (Android) or App Store (Apple).

  1. Open the Play Store/App Store
    On your device, look for the Play Store app (Android) or App Store (Apple).
  2. Find the Chromecast app
    Search for Chromecast. The official app will be the first result.
  3. Install the Chromecast app
    Click Install, then follow the instructions. You can click Devices to ensure that your Chromecast and your mobile device recognize each other.
  4. Open your Calm Radio app
    After opening the Calm Radio app, select any channel then start the channel.
  5. Connect Calm Radio to Chromecast
    Press the Chromecast icon near the top of the Calm Radio app and select your Chromecast device.
  6. Calm Radio from Your TV
    After you press the Chromecast icon, and chose the nearest Chromecast device in the Calm Radio app, the channel you chose should start broadcasting automatically to your TV.
    Each music category will feature a stunning background video to enhance your listening experience.

Android App Quickstart

  1. Download our free Android app from the Google Play Store. (Search "Calm Radio"). Download Here.

  2. After the app has fully downloaded, select and open the blue CALM RADIO icon on your device’s Home screen.
  3. Sign in, or Sign up for an account (Press Sign In / Sign Up).
  4. The app will start on the HOME screen, where you can select a channel for playback or see your favorited channels (or you can go to the MUSIC menu for more channel options).
  5. Swipe up or down to see available categories, and swipe left or right view available channels.
  6. Select any channel to start playing.
  7. You will now be taken to the NOW PLAYING section. You can tap the album cover to see the song information at any time.

1 - "Favorite" This Channel

Use this to add the currently playing channel to your Favorites sub-section in the MUSIC menu, for easy recall of your favorites.

2 - More Options Menu

Various additional features are found here, such as:

  • Sleep / Wake Timer

  • Share currently playing song
  • Equalizer - customize your sound
  • Background image/video selector - choose a static or video background - This feature allows you to set the background to a wide array of stunning videos/images while you play

3 - Main Settings/Account Menu

Pressing the "More" menu will bring you to the MAIN SETTINGS/ACCOUNT menu, letting you:

  • Edit your Account Details or reset your password
  • Pick an Equalizer to customize your sound (*premium subscribers only)
  • access the SETTINGS menu, enabling you to
    • select BITRATE (for slower connections)
    • select Direct or PORT 80 streams (Port 80 streams are for playback behind firewalls)
    • select RESTORE IN-APP PURCHASE - If you don't see your in-app purchases. (If you restored from a backup, or you deleted and reinstalled an app that you've made in-app purchases for)
    • select Language

4 - Adding Nature Sounds

Calm Radio’s Android app for both handheld and tablet devices features our patented Multimixing capability.

  1. To add a nature sound layer, simply use the “+” icon to the left of the volume slider (#4 in "NOW PLAYING" diagram at the top of this support page).
  2. Select a layer and it will start to play with the music.
  3. To adjust the volume of either channel, simply use the volume icon beside each layer.

Troubleshooting

Stream Dropouts

If your device is losing connectivity due to either:

  • inconsistent or slow wifi / data
  • mobile signal is switching between towers
  • mobile data is switching between 3G and 4G/5G

We highly recommend you enter the Calm Radio app’s Settings menu and reduce the audio quality setting to either Normal or Mobile.

Closing Background Apps

Your device may have too many applications open in the background memory which can cause your device to stall or slow down resulting in poor performance. Close as many apps as possible if your device response is slow.

View Open Apps. Click on the bottom the left of the Home button to reveal your open apps. This will reveal all the application you have previously opened.

Close an app. You can remove individual applications from the background memory, or select “Close All” to remove all open applications from memory. This is a safe procedure and will not result in losing installed apps.

Re-installing Your App

It may be necessary occasionally to re-install your Calm Radio Android app. To re-install your app:

  1. Delete the Calm Radio app by opening your phone’s Settings app
  2. Look for “Apps
  3. Look for Calm Radio
  4. Select “Uninstall
  5. Then, visit the Play Store app on your device, and search for “Calm Radio

IOS App Quickstart

Similar to using Bluetooth, Airplay will connect any Airplay-enabled devices when in-range.

Using Chromecast

Our Calm Radio app is also equipped to be compatible with Chromecast. Once Chromecast is installed on your phone / tablet, and the Chromecast dobgle is plugged into the back of your TV, you can stream from our app to your TV by simply selecting the Chromecast icon in our app.

Troubleshooting

Stream Dropout

Hard Reset

If you phone or app has for any reason stopped working or is frozen, it is advisable to perform a hard reset of your device. This is a safe and harmless procedure and will not result in loss of data.

To force restart your device, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

Closing Background Apps

View Open Apps. Double-click the Home button to reveal your open apps. Swipe sideways to see more. To switch to another app, tap it. On iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, press the left edge of the screen, then swipe right to switch apps.

Close an app. If an app isn’t working properly, you can force it to quit. Swipe the app up from the app switcher display. Then try opening the app again.

Update your IOS

Your Apple device needs to be always up-to-date. For many reasons like security, new features, you should always check and perform requested IOS updates.

Reinstalling

If in doubt, delete the Calm Radio by pressing and holding for 2 seconds then delete. Reinstall your app directly from the App Store. Download our free Apple IOS apps from the Apple App Store.

Tivoli internet radios like the Network Radio use the tivoliportal.com web management portal to manually add custom radio station URLs. Once you update your tivoliportal.com account with Calm Radio's URLs, they will then appear in your Tivoli’s Internet Radio menu.

Setup Instructions

Here is how to use tivoliportal.com on your Tivoli internet radio device:

Step 1

  1. Visit the My Account menu on the CalmRadio.com website.
  2. Choose "My Internet Radio URLs" from the bottom of the page. 
  3. Select "View Full Table."
  4. Choose either "Direct Links" (preferred) or "With Port 80" Authentication URL Type 2.
  5. Download or email the URLs you will need to enter into your tivoliportal.com account.

Step 2

  1. You will need to find your Radio ID to add to the Tivoli website portal.
  2. Hold "Menu/Select" on remote to go Main menu
  3. In Main menu select "Setting" and "Info"
  4. Radio ID is 12 characters long
  5. Next, you need to register for an account here: http://tivoliportal.com
  6. Register your radio in the menu on the left side of the Tivoli website called "My Radios"
  7. Once your radio is registered you need to add your special Calm radio URLs to your account
  8. Look for the "Add a station to your radio" menu on the left hand side.
  9. In Box 1, Add a Station Name like "CALM RADIO - Solo Piano"
  10. In Box 2, carefully copy any Calm Radio custom URL from the email we sent you into this box. You can use a High Medium or Low URL. High will require excellent high-speed internet bandwidth.
  11. Box 3 add Canada for the Location
  12. Box 4 add the genre, i.e...Classical, New Age, Atmosphere, Relaxation...
  13. Next line should be MP3
  14. Click "Submit"

On your Tivoli radio, look for the "Stations" menu...then "Internet Stations" ...then "My Added Stations". All you new Calm radio channels will appear in this menu

For the Playstation, there are two methods of installing Calm Radio URLs into the Playstation. The ORB and TVersity methods. Please see below for more details.

Setup Instructions

Step 1

  1. First, visit the My Account menu on the CalmRadio.com website.

  3. Select "View Full Table."
  4. Choose either "Direct Links" (preferred) or "With Port 80" Authentication URL Type 2.
  5. Download or email the URLs you will need to enter into your Playstation account.

Step 2

ORB Method

  1. Make sure you have ORB installed on your computer. http://www.orb.com/en/download
  2. Create a new radio channel favorite with one of the URLs that were sent to you. Try to copy the URL exactly so you don't make mistakes. Be very careful of all syntax in the URL when copying.
  3. Then on the PS3 web browser, login to your MYORB account.
  4. Begin playing your channel!
  5. The Media server S/W must both be on and connected to the internet

TVersity Method

  1. Go to TVersity and install it on your PC. http://tversity.com/
  2. Using one of the URLs we sent to you, carefully copy the URL into the Source/Internet section
  3. Make sure you have checked the "Convert Always" checkbox.
  4. Then turn on the channel in the TVersity folder in the PS3 media server audio area.
  5. The Media server S/W must both be on and connected to the internet

Many popular internet radios use the pioneer.vtuner.com web management portal to manually add custom radio station URLs. This is an easy method to add Calm Radio's custom HD sound-quality commercial-free URLs into vTuner's MY ADDED STATIONS menu, which will then synchronize and automatically show up on your radio.

Setup Instructions

Step 1

  1. First, visit the My Account menu on the CalmRadio.com website.
  2. Choose "My Internet Radio URLs" from the bottom of the page. 
  3. Select "View Full Table."
  4. Choose either "Direct Links" (preferred) or "With Port 80" Authentication URL Type 2.
  5. Download or email the URLs you will need to enter into the MY ADDED STATIONS menu of your pioneer.vtuner.com account. 

  

 

Step 2

  1. Next, you need to register for an account at vTuner.com. Your device may use it’s own proprietary vTuner website, for example... pioneer.vtuner.com. Please check your device’s user manual for the exact web address. You can also visit CalmRadio’s “Internet Radios” menu on our website for more details.
  2. You will need to add to the vTuner website either your device’s MAC address, or a registration code. Please check your internet radio's user manual.

Step 3

  1. On the vTuner website, look for the "My Added Stations" menu.
  2. Click "Add Another Station" to create a new station entry.

 

Step 4

  1. In Box 1, Add a Station Name like "CALM RADIO - Solo Piano"
  2. In Box 2, carefully copy any Calm Radio custom URLs you downloaded or had emailed into Box 2. Choose any High Medium or Low URL. When copying, be careful not to add any blank spaces at the beginning or end of the URL.
  3. In Box 3 add Canada for the Location
  4. In Box 4 add the genre, i.e...Classical, New Age, Atmosphere, Relaxation...
  5. Next line should be MP3
  6. Click the arrow to accept your entry

 

Step 5

  1. On your device, select or press the "Network" menu Then select or press the Internet Radio menu PLEASE NOTE: If the Internet Radio menu is already playing, hit the "Back" button
  2. Select the Added Stations menu. Your new Calm Radio channel will show up there.
