Oprah has called Tolle “a prophet of our times.” The New York Times proclaimed him “the most popular spiritual author in the United States.” Jim Carrey and Deepak Chopra are huge fans of his work.
He has authored two New York Times bestselling books, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose, and The Power of Now. His message is built on a transformation of consciousness. At the heart of that transformation is ”transcending our ego-based state of consciousness. This is a prerequisite not only for personal happiness but also for the ending of violent conflict endemic on our planet.”
Last month, we reached out to Tolle, thanking him for his membership and for valuable work. He responded to us in such a joyful way: he shared what he loves about Calm Radio. We were elated. “I very much enjoy listening to Calm Radio. It’s my favourite station. [There are] Many channels with excellent music.” He then shared his five favourite channels with us. Here they are.
Eckhart Tolle’s Favourite Calm Radio Relaxing Music Channels
“Music, like nature, bypasses the conceptual mind.” - Eckhart Tolle
Healing
This is one of our most popular Wellness channels. It is a delicate mix of holistic and organic relaxation music. The channel features artists like Dean Evenson, Deuter, and Coyote Oldman, providing you with a playlist of soothing new age instrumentalist music. Much like the work of Tolle, this channel provides you with the uplifting feeling of spiritual healing, and, like Tolle, it is influenced by Eastern spiritual traditions.
OM
The OM channel is music for the third eye. It is both mystical and esoteric. Let it fill your mind, body, and spirit with balance, calmness and serenity.
Tolle often sparks deep thought and contemplation in his readers and listeners. When you find yourself ready for contemplation, this is the perfect playlist to put on in the background, find peace, and explore those profound thoughts (or to simply be still).
Gregorian Chants
In our noisy modern world, escaping to a more ancient space can be extremely powerful. Gregorian music does just that. Benedictine Monks and other Gregorian choirs of the gothic style provide spiritually-filled meditation music for you to “escape” back into the now.
Eckhart talks about the power of the present moment. Music has the ability to bring us there. It pulls us out of looking past the present moment, and focusing on the “journey of now”, to borrow Tolle’s term.
Singing Bowls
Harmonious. That is the word we would use to describe this meditation music channel. Find a calm space, close your eyes, and let the meditational, soothing and relaxing singing bowls take over.
The distinctive and harmonic hum is both invigorating and calming at the same time. They are the perfect way to feel “the power of the present moment” that Tolle talks about.
Mozart
The final entry on Tolle’s list is our Mozart channel. Mozart profoundly shaped classical music. His brilliance and maturity of style encompassed the light and graceful along with the dark and passionate.
Like Tolle, Mozart was deeply concerned with spiritual matters. He let that shine through in his work. Robert Levin, a musicologist at Harvard, says of Mozart’s music, it is “overwhelmingly music of tenderness, empathy, and at times of grandeur.” We can picture Tolle reflecting on the profound with Mozart playing in the background. In fact, when Tolle writes in A New Earth: “life is the dancer and you are the dance.” We like to imagine that it’s Mozart’s music that inspires the dance.
Let these relaxing music channels help guide you on your inward journey into the present moment. We’d like to thank Mr. Tolle for providing the list and inspiration for this article. Thank you.
